Whirlygiggles - One Border to Go

photo.jpg, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

I've got the tops put together as far as I can on both whirlygiggle baby quilts. I am one border short for the second one but am hoping to get enough from my BFF (batting my eyes furiously) to finish up. She's using the same fabric but with another really fun pattern. Check out the BHP here.

I'm also stacking fabrics for another quilt top starting soon. No cutting until at least one of these is quilted up though.

Edit: Well, I don't have a red thread for quilting the borders of the first quilt so I've had to order some. And I'm out of batting for the log cabin I could quilt. I guess that means that I just have no choice but to give this pattern at Oh Fransson a try, right?

Ta Da!

IMG_1943, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

The Bleeker St quilting is done! I pieced the back from two flannels and used a pantograph called Clematis by Jodi Beamish. I love, love, triple love this pattern. It's got swirls and cuteness galore. Plus it was big so the center of the quilt went really fast.

Too bad, I'm also the official winner of the Waviest Borders on a Quilt ever! Seriously, I should give up putting borders on quilts.

I'm hoping to take some better pictures in the daylight tomorrow.

More Flannel

More Flannel, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

Decisions were made over the holiday weekend and I hope to post a picture of the quilting tonight. I'm in love with it. Seriously.

Because I'm that smart

photo.jpg, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

I sewed together half the blocks last night and this one had to make close friends with the seam ripper. Dumb.

This is what the cutest giggles look like though.

And all together now.

Love U Cut Stack

IMG_1908, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

The colors of this collection are just fun. I'm pretending to branch out to white fabrics by using the white with red dots as the background fabric for the whirlygiggles.

All the charm squares are cut and about half the little squares are together.

See how much better this looks than the mockup? I think with the number of squares that I will end up with and some judicious cutting of the backing flannel, I might even end up with two good size baby/kid quilts. So should I make them mix-y or one cool colors and one warm colors?

Or mix up the fabrics in the whirlys and have two matching quilts?

Thank goodness for magnetic design walls.

Not your great grandma's quilting bee

IMG_1900, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

The sewing day was a huge success. We had a great spread of snacks and lots of projects to chose from. My house and sewing room are not quite large enough for everyone to sew inside (at least not in the same building) so we did ours mostly outdoors. January in San Diego, gotta love it.

Annette traveled all the way down to play with us and so she used the big machine to stipple a quilt for one of her grand babies.

Karen was the winner with three completed projects.

Pillowcase for my Brother

Pillowcase, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

In between chores and hand sewing the Figgy Pudding binding, I did manage to get a pillowcase sewn up for my brother. His "travel" pillow is an odd size so I hope this fits okay. It's cold in Afghanistan so I'm hoping the flannel is appreciated. I'm sure the pattern will be. Here's a close up.

Work sure gets in the way

Work sure gets in the way, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.
This is where I was on my quilt 12 hours ago. . . . and oh look, I haven't made any progress yet. This whole having a full time job sure gets in the way of things. I suppose that's how I can afford all the stuff in that room. And if you know what you're looking at in the background you can see a picture of a baby tiger that I had printed on fabric at Spoonflower. I took the picture on my trip to Thailand Dec 2008. Oh right, one more thing that was made possible by a job.

Okay, I'm back out to finish the last couple of feet of the binding tonight. I'm getting ready for a big Quilting Soiree on Sunday so gotta get the frame cleared and workspaces for 4 set up*.

*Karen, if you read this, I know you're coming on Sunday and you know you don't need a workspace for anything other than setting your cocktail down.

I also got a little more done on the Bleeker St this past weekend.

Back of Sherbet

photo.jpg, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

Here's my favorite side of this quilt. I just like this flannel and it settled down the sherbet yellow, pink and orange front.

This one went to a friend at work and she has promised not to hang it on the wall.

I tried, really I tried

IMG_5355, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

I was sort of trying not to buy any fabric this month. Just to see if I could possibly do it. Turns out I couldn't. So here's what I got today to keep my projects rolling. Some green polka dot flannel for the back of the Bleeker St. A different green for the binding since my folding of the Dimples fabric was a little too neat and I didn't realize that there were huge pieces cut out. I found lots of that fabric pattern but none in quite the right green. The red with skulls is a little something for my brother who is in Afghanistan.

This is the border and backing for the Whirlygiggles. It's just giggly and the yellow is flannel. Yes, this brings me up to 95 yards of flannel. Ah well, it's cold in San Diego right now, down in the 50s.
