Woven Chevron

A coworker's husband recently received a leukemia diagnosis. While it appears to highly treatable, I'm still strongly opposed to any type of cancer. So what was to be done but start a kamikaze quilting project?

I used a block tutorial from The Elven Garden.  I ginormisized it and rotated the rows.






Since my machine is only set up for baby quilts right now, I came with a brilliant plan to quilt it in sections and then simply stitch it all together. Throw a little pebbling over the seam and call it good. Umm yeah, that was not my finest idea. I ended up on the floor with it for two nights trying to hand stitch the layers together. It worked well enough but I've never head so many puckers on the front and back of a quilt. I was crossing my fingers the whole time it was in the wash that it would shrink up a lot. The more texture the better!





I found a fun flannel print at JoAnn's for the backing. The binding took a couple of movies over the weekend so I could deliver it today.

Hopefully they like it.

Birthday Gift

Check out the awesomeness which is my new quilt rack. My friend, Shawn, made it just for me!!




It is perfect for my living room and currently holds some quilts and fabric I brought home from Turkey. I'm trying to decide how to use it and having it out should help.

Now I better get back to filling it up :)

SD Bee Block

I've joined the quilt bee in our SD Modern Quilt Guild. The first blocks are for Amanda and I finished them up today.


The bottom block matches up to one of Susan's blocks since she posted hers online before I drew mine up. Amanda is going to have a great quilt from these blocks!

Next up...bubbles for Barb.

Finish

Hey, it counts. I've finished an entire spool of aqua thread. Hmmm, who would guess that pebbling a 72x84 quilt would get me to the end of a million yards.

Lined Bag

Like everyone else in the blog world, I tried the In Color Order Lined Bag. It only took an evening and a half and is a nice size.

Finish!

I think there are only two people who will be impressed with this finish. And they would be people who have fought the serger and won the threading battle. It took an entire episode of Castle to actually accomplish it but I'm a winner!!

Moving Right Along

About 36 more blocks to go. This is the point where I start wondering if the quilt is big enough.

Robot Strips

I'm already posting my first finish of the quarter because of my vacation time.





I had a few of the robots print by Caleb Grey, it's an organic line and perfect for a quick baby blanket. Which is all I can quilt at the moment because my frame is set up at half size.





I quilted it up with random rectangles and squares. If you know where to look in the picture above, I included the word 'love' in the quilting as usual but didn't loop the letters so they blended better.





I took it along on my trip to have something to do while flying and driving since I wasn't in charge of either of those. The backing is a blue flannel that i had on hand. I think from Sam's quilt.





I donated it to a quilt shop in Kona, HI for their guild (I think Aloha Quilters) to gift to a child in foster care. Always a worthwhile cause.
It was nice for me to have something to do and nice to show my friend traveling with me that there is a purpose in my quilting. He may not want one still but he knows the term 'fat quarter' and how nice it is when someone's face lights up when handed a quilt.

Second Round

It's the second quarter of the 2012 Finish Along at Quilter in the Gap. It's a long list but I'm coming off a vacation and feeling on top of the world.
Here's the quick list and I may come back and add fancy pictures of each project, I may not though so don't hold your breath.
1. Giggling project - it's a gift so I won't show much detail.





2. Arabella Modern Day Diamonds - it was on the list last quarter too but isn't quilted totally yet. Here's the progress

These aren't all the ongoing projects and of course I'll start at least a few more but that's what makes it fun. Oh and I'm hoping to build a new studio too. :)

Guest Bed

We have a guest in the house this weekend but she came without a bed so I made one up for her.


It's random piecing of leftover flannel


It's stuffed with extra bits of batting so maybe a little lumpy.


So far so good. The dogs are happy to nap on it.
