Drooling

Ok, I want to make a small quilt with just squares to put some of Leah Day's fancy designs. This is my favorite - Flame Flower.

Project Linus V.2

Project Linus V.2, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

Okay, I think I'm liking this better. Which is good because I have all the squares cut out for the yellow/green stars. I went with a smaller green stripe and more blue. The setting squares are a dark blue kona cotton that was on sale this weekend. I'm planning on quilting stars in yellow so that should work out well.

Received!

Across the country in no time at all :) Hooray. I put so much in that flat rate box that I was sure there would be a blanket explosion on the way. Similar to the way my couch looks at the moment.

New plan for Project Linus blanket. I'm not sure about it yet. Who loves the magical powers of photoshop (minus my bad color matching in the pics not the real fabric)?

Pinwheel

This is the final, washed up version of the quilt for my niece that my mom and I worked on. It was a kit from Stars & Scraps Quilt Shop in Corona and we made it a little bigger by adding in an extra row of pinwheels. I think it's the first quit that I've done on point and is definitely the first raw edge piecing. Super easy and fun though. The directions were great and they also detailed how to quilt it. We did not want to use the hard plastic buttons for the pinwheel centers so did do little buttons out of fabric yo yos.

Receiving Blankets

Receiving Blankets, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

Did I mention that I have a new niece? And according to the pictures I've seen so far, she's short on girl themed blankets. So I whipped up six flannel receiving blankets today and they'll wing their way to Key West, FL tomorrow.

Hooray for flannel sales just when you need them. And yes, by that I mean there is no change to the amount of flannel waiting to be used in this house. I did go out to get more BUT did sew it all up on the same day.

Hooray for sergers too. These were quick! Not so much square as quick.

PROOF!!!

Quilt Moxie is working on her 9 quilt sewing project.

I snuck over there to be sure the rumors were true.

Best Button

I finished the last of the buttons for Aerith's quilt. This is one of my favorite. It took me awhile to figure out the right size of circles to use for the right size of buttons. Turns out that it's the base of tea light.

And here's the reason for the buttons. Aerith Rinoa and her brother Squall.

Love is Built Right In

Love is Built Right In, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

I forgot to put this pic of the secret message in the last post. I'm trying to put a little bit of love in each quilt. Sometimes more messages as well.

Whirlygiggle - One Done!

I finished the binding on the drive up to snowboard in Mammoth this weekend and got it washed and dried, this is the stage officially known as crinkly goodness. The backing is flannel of course. After washing this one in comparison to the guitars, I noticed a huge difference in the amount of shrinkage depending on the quality of the fabrics. Don't get me wrong, I'll still buy fabric based on colors and patterns. I am that kind of crazy.

I did freehand flowers and little leaves in the binding.  I definitely need to get the hang of this a little more.  Also, I've realized that the big machine is super picky about the type of thread and no amount of tension adjustment is going to change that.

Blue Guitars

Crinkly Goodness, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.
The baby quilt for a gal at work is done! Just in time for the baby shower on Tuesday. I really like how it turned out. I don't know if I got a picture of it but in the last row of blocks I wrote in "Love to Rock" and of course signed it in the corner.

Got Pink Tulle?

Got Pink Tulle?, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.
I sure do! I'm prepping for the Revlon Run/Walk for Women in LA this May and our team is called Tutus for Tatas (by us anyway, the steering committee of the event decided that was too racy? sassy?) We did this walk last year and it was a great event.

In case you're in the mood to donate (or join us), here's the link!

Less than 24 Hours Later

Less than 24 Hours Later, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

It's pieced and quilted. I cut the binding too but let's not go too crazy trying to get that on. Oh, who am I kidding? I'll have it machine stitched on tonight and settle in with a movie for the whip stitching by hand.

The backing is of course flannel with guitars, I was lucky to find something close to the nursery theme. I used a guitar pantograph by Dave Hudson. Due to the quick deadline, I tried a digital download of the design for the first time. It was not entirely straightforward but I managed to resize and tape a few copies together to make a long enough pattern. Lucky this is a baby quilt though or I might not have wrestled with it as much as I did.

Here's a closeup, I was a little shaky on following the lines.

I was invited to a baby shower early last week. Of course I want to make her a quilt but it took a little sleuthing to get colors and a theme picked out. The baby shower is on Tuesday. Who puts the Obsessive Compulsive in Quilting? Me! Of course I started it at 9 pm last night. Here it is 12 hours later. . . and yes, I did get lots of sleep and all that regular life stuff. I just happen to be an early riser. And you can see I'm not going nuts on the piecing design for this one although it already has grown 3 inches since the Excel layout.

It's loaded up on the quilting frame now and I hope to get the quilting started after I run the dogs and do some chores.

Bleeker Brick Road

Kristen's quilt pictures, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

It's all done in it's crinkly glory. My mom finished the binding and the label last weekend. Then I begged for pictures and she did a great job.

Did I mention that I love the quilting pattern.

Bits and Progress

Mostly bits today. First off we're still waiting on red thread to finish off the border on the Whirlygiggle. It's waiting on the frame with the center all quilted up and the secret message hidden-ish. Look closely in the yellow pinwheel.

Waiting for Red Thread, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

Then there's the last placemat for my birthday set waiting for the binding to be sewn on. And since I had a big strip left, how about the first coaster of a possible set of coasters?

Then there's the first log cabin that I made a zillion years ago waiting patiently for it's turn on the frame, I have a good idea of how to quilt it but no batting for now.

First Log Cabin, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

So with all that I spent some time cutting out 36 squares for a new quilt. At least I had all the pieces for that part, right? If all goes according to the instructions I should have some cute blocks in the next day or two.

Cut Stack for New, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

And last, I am going to re-purpose some old templates that I had for cutting paper shapes. They seem to be just tall enough to trace the big quilter if I hold it with one hand and drive with the other. Kids, don't try this at home. Or at least not until I give it a whirl.
