Nothing New to Show

2005, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

I was out of town for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival recently so have nothing new to show as far as quilting goes. Here's a little baby blanket that I co-made with a friend. Yeah, it's gigantic. A whole lotta applique, embroidered words and foundation pieced borders.

He still loves it almost 5 years later. At least, he's smart enough to act like he loves it.

Binding Coins

Binding Coins, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

I have a couple of pockets hanging on the wall where I throw my scraps. One for flannel bits, one for cotton bits and one for binding. So I thought I'd see about making a chinese coin quilt for the third Project Linus quilt. You see here the fruits of about an hour's labor. I've got 90 coins done and according to my handy dandy excel calculations, I only need 180 for a 45 x 60 quilt.

Only trouble is that I think I want to make a dozen more quilts and include the bindings of those quilts. I don't really have enough time to do that. And I didn't consider giving it a try, you can all be so proud.

So I guess I'll add this to my list of pending quilts (yes, in Excel) and start something else for Project Linus.

Project Linus 2

Project Linus 2, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

A donated top from Luc's Mom on Saturday morning is now quilted and waiting for the binding to be sewn on. I did the celtic leaves in the center. For the borders, I did stippling and stars. The tension worked a lot better this time but I definitely need to take her in for a spa day.

I pieced leftover batting for this one and found some light blue swirly fabric in my stash for the binding. It's cut and ironed, I've just got to get it sewn on and trimmed. Then I'll check if my mom's ready to do the whip stitching. We're collaborating on three of these quilts for Project Linus.

Still Project Linus-ing

Oddly there are no copy shops open on a Sunday morning in my 'hood. Matilda was exhausted from the search so we came home and I got out the light box and hand traced 65 inches of a leaf pantograph. But we're ready to go now as the quilt top from Luc's Mom is already loaded on the frame.

And yes I'm proud. I didn't buy any new flannel to back this quilt. That's right, no new flannel. So now I only have 94 yards of flannel. Please don't refer back to the Jan 18th post that mentions I started with 84 yards.

Waves of Love

Waves of Love, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

This is the helper's quilt that I made in 2005. It's called Waves of Love and he brings it down to gramma's every time they visit. I did a review of how it's holding up with daily use and the verdict is so far so good.

The label was hand stitched. You can see where I had to do extra wide bindings because I messed up the sizing on the backing.

The only thing is that the applique on the back is looking a little ragged. But what do you expect for cotton fused to flannel?

Helper

photo.jpg, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

In the fabric search this weekend, I had a helper. Here he is pictured being quite helpful. Before that it was mostly discussions on what fabric and thread would be best for me to make him vests for his stuffed monkeys as he practices for the arrival of his real pet money.

Which I've heard will happen in 2037.

Nevertheless, we found some fabric for the coven.

Project Linus V.2 in person

Project Linus V.2 in person, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

The top is completely done and I had every intention of loading it on the frame and possibly starting the quilting tonight. BUT when I went to take the dogs for a walk and return the extra dog, I only grabbed the key to the extra dog's house. Not my own. So I essentially locked myself out for about 3 hours. Not a problem generally as I keep two extra keys in the 'hood. Both at friend's houses. Both friends that I took to the airport this week.

Nice.

Luckily one was coming home tonight. So the dogs got a 1.5 mile walk while I waited. They were pleased. I was less than. I was tired and wanted to be home. But my friend was dropped off by two other friends. Who were hungry. So we all went to dinner (second dinner for me but that was okay because I mostly just drank my dinner).

So here we are with the poor kids having to wait for a quilt because I'm not so bright.

PS - Despite what my cameras say, that is not a pale yellow with the orange. That is a fierce stripe of which I have 3 yards still to use. What can I say? It was 1.88 a yard.

PPS - This is the book that I used although I adjusted the pattern somewhat with varying strip sizes. This is the scrap pile that ensued. I'm crossing my fingers that I actually like scrap quilts some day.
