Triangle Quilt, Triangle Quilt

It was a dark and stormy morning and  by that I mean it was raining lightly and there was no way I was going to leave the house.  It was too much fun staying home and being blamed for the rain by Matilda.

So I started with this Minkee I got on sale recently -

to this initial grouping (ignore the stacks in the back) - 

to some really bad math.  I need 99 triangles, no wait, I need 396.  Damn it, I'll just lay them out.  Oh, I need 180.  Ok, well here's the first batch -



and here they all are with a dog that is still irritated I'm spraying her with water every time she wants to go outside -




And voila, the next morning, the sun is back and the triangles are attached.  I did consider renaming the quilt from "Triangle Quilt, Triangle Quilt, Doing the Things a Triangle Can" to "What's the Point" but it's a baby quilt and everyone knows that babies don't mind mismatched points.



And look a couple do match up just to be show offs.




The nice thing is that almost everything was scraps.  I had a scrap bag of oranges, yellows, reds and pinks.   Some of them were big enough for cutting a triangle but some were not so I pieced them and then cut the triangles.  Scrappy, random and quickish.  Not too shabby for a rainy Saturday.

Lemon Squares Bound

I had a looooong day of jury duty today and decided to fully dork out and take a quilt with me to bind. I finished up the Lemon Squares quilt. I've just got to dig up the label from somewhere around here. If I can trick someone into holding up for me this weekend, I'll post a full picture soon.

Hmm, that seems to be a common thread on posts lately. It might be time to dig out my pulleys too and set up a photo spot. Maybe on my new front porch, that should fancy up the neighborhood.

You can kinda see in this picture that I decided to try pebbling in the white spaces. On the yellow squares I stitched in some lemons. Cause I take quilt names literally.

Saturday Stash #22

This has been in my stash for a bit as I was waiting for the perfect project to come along. That project came along last month and brought a friend today. So I've got a couple of plans and have put my rotary cutter on alert.

Gotta hit up just one more Memorial Day sale this weekend and I think I'm set for both projects.

I started planning cutting for a circle-y quilt top this morning before work. When I got home, there was a package from Wondrous Woven Fabrics with a little roll of the same fabrics I was considering. Despite the four fat quarter bundles currently eyeballing me on my desktop, I opened up the roll and sewed all 16 strips of this California Dreamin' fabric together. It's fun, it's cheery, it's bright. All the things that were missing from today. So here it is, if I can keep the front small, I've got a back ready to go. Although I am wishing that I had a couple of fat quarters of the Golden Gate blues and greens colorway to mix in to the front.

Circles, you're still on my list, get ready!

Lemon Squares

Here is the result of cutting up my yellow/orange/pink scraps following this pattern over at the lovely Fresh Lemons blog. I shorted a couple of strips on the last 3 blocks so will need to redo those before finishing up I know the picture is kinda dark but I'm pretty pleased with how it's turning out and wanted to lay it out real quick on the floor. I still have plenty of scraps left in all 3 bins but at least they close a little easier. Most of the sewing I did at the sewing meetup on Sunday. Here's a closer up too. And I won't need to buy any fabric to complete this one. Although I did steal the white on white from another project so will have to find some more of that next month.

It's Tough but I Can Do It

Really I can do it. I've got the majority of the blocks for this quilt finished. I have the border, binding and backing fabrics. What I don't have is enough of the Kona Avocado to finish the rest of the blocks. So I've added that to my list of fabric to buy when my resolution is complete. I can do it. Look, I already packed up the whole project so that it can't taunt me. I'll move it to the deep freeze tonight and go on to another project. It's not like I don't have plenty of projects to keep me occupied for the next 49 days (but who's counting?), right?

Saturday Stash #2

I'm still working on another project but as a reminder to myself that I have plenty of fabric to play with, I went out to look at my fabric shelves. I started with this delightfully swirly and sunshine-y fabric and it took me just a few minutes to pull 5 other fabrics that wanted to become it's new BFFF*.

I let them hang out for a little while but they've all gone back to join their regular shelves now.  Maybe they can be pen pals.

In other happy fabric news, the green that I had for the modern diamonds project (posted as the hmmmm previously) was getting pushed around by the prints so I replaced it with a darker green that could hold it's own. Doesn't sound happy so far, right? Well, I tossed it near the stack of other fabrics looking for a bit o' green and it gets along famously. I think I'm at the pattern picking step for the baby quilt mentioned in Saturday Stash #1.

Happy New Year!

Here's the first grouping of fabrics for the new year. And also the first exception to one of my resolutions. First, I'd like to say it's a really hard resolution and I know this because I like to test my resolutions between Thanksgiving and Christmas to see if I really want to keep them. So effective today I will not be purchasing fabric for 2 solid months*. With the sole exception of anything that is needed for this baby quilt I'm making on my sister's behalf for one of the funniest, nicest, best Facebook updaters we know. She picked out the 3 fat quarters and I'm going to come up with a pattern of some sort. I will try to add in only fabrics from the neatly stacked, yet still very full cabinets I already have. But in an emergency, I reserve the right to buy the perfect shade of green to make the apples and zoo animals get along.

Other than that, if I am in the middle of a project and run out of fabric, I will set it aside and work on something else. Probably. I do have plenty to work on.



*Yes, purposely picked a short month in which I have a birthday which may trick people into sending me Kate Spain Central Park stuff.
