I've finished the quilt that's been keeping me from other things, like my Fandango Layer Cakes.

This one will go off to it's new home and then I'll post more about it.

Here's a little bit of adorableness I found at my closest fabric store while on a hunt for binding. The store is a short walk away and dog friendly so someone doesn't have to sit outside and whine about being left alone to die. They don't have a lot of quilt-able fabric but sometimes I find something great.

Ah well, it'll work out and I've definitely got a few new tips and tricks in my bag now.

Houston Rockets Baby Quilt

I tried to keep this quilt as simple as possible to highlight the Houston Rockets fabric. Also, I was secretly making another quilt for the same baby that required me to invent new sewing methods so it was important to maintain my sanity with a quilt that I could just get along with during the whole process. I hit a few snafus when the red I ordered along with the theme fabric turned out to be fuschia. They just named it red. But that striped stuff practically jumped off the bolt in an effort to be included.

It appears in this picture that I did diagonal lines to quilt it but actually, I did a really big zig zag across the big blocks. I used a red flannel for the back and crossed my fingers when I washed it since Quilt Moxie had just had similar fabric bleed on a completed quilt.

All in all, I like how it turned out and hope that it's enjoying it's new home and baby in Texas.

Fuschia Placemats

Another couple of place mats for my BFF. I'm horrible about giving out gifts on specific days but managed this year with 4 quilted placemats. The back is a green and then I did the stitching with a pantograph from Willow Leaf Studio. It's barely noticeable but I did switch the threads from green for the leaves and red for the flower bits.

The fuschias were bigger than I expected so may be better suited for a quilt rather than place mats as some of the mats don't fully show a flower.

New Plan for Labels

I've been sewing like mad this week but most of the projects are still top secret so today I'm sharing my new plan for making sure my quilts get labels a little sooner. I'm printing them and taping them up over my cutting table. Two of these are even for unfinished quilts. One thing I'm struggling with though is that I like to put the month and the year that the quilt was finished on a label but if I print the label prior, I do have to guess on the month. That's one way to put a deadline on myself I suppose.


P.S. The green strip isn't part of the label, I've redacted the recipient name since it's a secret project.

One reason that I haven't been posting much recently is that I'm working on a couple of surprise gifts. Hmmm, now that I look around, it's almost 1/2 a dozen gift projects in the works.

One of the winners of the 100 post giveaway asks me constantly for black and white and green quilt. She now has one so I suspect the pestering will decrease slightly. Or increase because she'll have to be more clear about sizing. This one is very small.

It's a string quilt with random swirly, flowery fabrics. Oh, and skulls. The back is black flannel and I just did straight line quilting using painter's tape as a guide.

I suppose that I could call this one the miniature version of You Know Black is this Year's Pink that I eventually hope to make for myself.
