Giving it a Whirl

I've just posted a quilt for sale on etsy.  It's the Love U whirlygiggle that I liked so much I made two without having any babies needing a quilt.  I still have to finish the border on the second one but in the meantime, here's to hoping that number one finds a good home.

A Perfect Storm

TFLN, Loomtack and Scraps, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

Now that this gift was received I can post about it. This was the result of one of my cousins sending me random websites. This is a melding of three of those websites into one useless item.

First, she sent me a site called www.spoonflower.com where you can print your own fabric designs on yardage of cotton or linen or stuff. They have weekly design contests and one we really liked had cute little birdies.

Then, I got a site called http://textsfromlastnight.com. This has gems from people's text messages like "I just recycled a years worth of liquor bottles. I can feel my alcoholic carbon footprint shrinking" and much much worse.

Lastly, to bring it all together, was a site called www.loomtack.com. I stalked it for a little while until they had a fantastic sale and then got a roll to try. You can print to any fabric with your home printer.

Voila!

A 10 inch square something with three little birdies and a scrappy border and the talking points below.

Yellow birdy:
You seriously don't know? He was trying to arrest you and you were shouting that you were being punk'd. Punk'd? that show got canceled like 5 years ago.

Green birdy:
My facebook is like a giant collection of my one night stands.

Violet birdy:
Stripper fight on main stage. It just happened. And it was glorious.

She likes it :)

Phase: Living with It

This is my magnetic "dining room" wall with the crazy loco lattice quilt, pattern from Oh Fransson. It's got an extra row and extra column. I didn't buy any new fabric for this one (yet). I've got the backing ready to go. Particularly since I managed to do the math right, 5 yards of backing IS enough for a 6 foot quilt. With ummm, 9 feet left over.

The colors are not quite right, if I don't get too busy this next week, I might be able to take a picture in the daylight.

Now, I'll move on to something else while I live with it for awhile and move squares around until I either get sick of looking at it or buy some more Warm and White batting.

I also finished a little project but it's a gift so I'll have to wait until it's given before I post.

I'm on Break

photo.jpg, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

Ok, really I've just got to make some more little bitty scraps. I've got a little over a third of it done. So I'm unloading the ticker tape twin and moving on (or back) to other projects. I really like how it's turning out though. I'm clipping the threads on the front as I go but it's probably going to be a nightmare to clip all the black thread on the black backing.

Birthday Placemats

IMG_1954, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

I'm almost 3 months late in posting these but they are my new birthday placemats. I started them the day before my birthday and even had one done for my party. They did go pretty quickly since it was basically loading two yards of fabrics and some leftover batting on the long arm frame. Then I just did my loop de loops with a few secret messages. The binding is the first bit of my new favorite line, Verna by Kate Spain.

Tutus for Tatas - 2010

Tutus for Tatas - 2010, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.
Success! We had a tutu for just about everyone that needed one. Partly due to me making a little one on the drive up to LA on Friday night and then working on another one before everyone woke up on Saturday morning. There were a gazillion people out for this walk. It's an annual event although only the second one for me.

Who wants to sign up for next year? Everyone is welcome on the team but you're on your own for a pink tutu at this point.

And yes, I've got three rows done on the ticker tape. . . .

Who Puts the O in OCQ?

IMG_5645, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.
Seriously. The only word for that is obsessive. That's 62 x 12 inches of tiny scraps quilted down on the twin size quilt. And no, I did not take the day off of work today.

Two Done, One Started

Project Linus Stars, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

Project Linus Two, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.
Two of the Project Linus quilts are done and washed. The third is in having the binding hand stitched now. Since those are ready to go onto the children, I decided to start another.

Ticker Tape Twin Backing, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

This is part of the backing.  I really wanted it to be flannel and I really didn't want to buy any more flannel.  So I cut 5 rectangles from these and then put the circle bright stuff on both ends.  This is going to be a twin size based on crazy mom's ticker tape wall hanging.

Ticker Tape Twin, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.

This is the first section of a 66 x 102 quilt.  Again, I really like the bits of other quilts that this reminds me I made.   I do have this loaded on the frame right now and it goes pretty quick.  I don't think I have enough scraps to finish though.  Maybe it will end up being a strata of a few months/years.  Maybe I'll start snipping bits from my stash though.

It has handlebars

It has handlebars, originally uploaded by shanleytulip.
Here's how conversations about my new toy usually go with all the fellas I know.
Me: Yeah, I got a big new sewing machine.
Fella: (yawn)
Someone else: It has handlebars.
Fella: Really, that's cool.
Me: And a laser light.
Fella: WOW! I want to see that.

But my dad's the only fella to try it so far. He was working on his Project Linus, Disney Give a Day, Get a Day quilt. It was great, I just wanted to do something simple but before too long he was even using the right terminology, "I'm going to outline Mother Goose so she really pops".

Nice!

It was cool how quick it all went with three of us working on it. I'm the ghost on the left looking for a good binding material.

We found that in my stash but not the backing, we had to walk up to the local fabric store to find something that worked.

I'll post finished pictures when they get the binding on.
